"Strategic Structures"
by Robert Rauschenberg, Kat Epple, and Bob Stohl.
The music was composed and performed by Robert Rauschenberg, Kat Epple and Bob Stohl. It was created on a series of musical instruments which they call "Strategic Structures". These musical sculptures were created in collaboration with highly acclaimed metal sculptor, Lawrence Voytek, and were constructed utilizing a variety of metals, including both elemental and weapons-grade titanium. Electronic audio processors were incorporated into each structure to shape, color, finely tune and amplify the rich timbres generated by these exotic metals as they are bowed, plucked, or stroked. Each instrument has its own musical personality and a unique set of performance parameters. This intimate concert was performed at Rauschenberg's Beach House on Captiva in 1989.
